Hungry Giant began in 2007 as an idea drawn on a cardboard box in a warehouse. 23-year-old Chris O’Brien was working in a white goods store and saw truckload after truckload of polystyrene packaging materials regularly removed from the store and taken straight to landfill. Chris knew there had to be a better way.

Chris developed an EPS compactor machine that could compact polystyrene on site. He called it the Hungry Giant, and the machine Chris built and commercialised will change the waste removal industry in Australia forever, significantly reducing the amount of waste going into landfill.
